Ketu is the South Node of the Moon — a shadow planet representing detachment, spirituality, past-life karma, and liberation (Moksha). Like Rahu, Ketu has no physical body. He is the "tail of the dragon" — the headless body of the Asura Swarbhanu.

After Vishnu severed Swarbhanu, the headless body became Ketu. While Rahu is obsessed with worldly consumption, Ketu represents the body without a mouth — symbolizing the spiritual seeker who has no desire to consume the world. Ketu is associated with Lord Ganesha (who removed his own head) and with the dissolution of ego.
Ketu governs spirituality, detachment, moksha (liberation), past-life karma, occult knowledge, and self-realization. He dissolves whatever he touches. A well-placed Ketu gives spiritual wisdom, intuition, and liberation from material bondage. An afflicted Ketu causes confusion, loss, disconnection, and unexplained suffering. Ketu's Mahadasha lasts 7 years.
Worship Lord Ganesha. Offer red flowers and modak (sweet dumplings). Recite the Ganesha Atharvashirsha or "Om Ketave Namah" 108 times. Wear a cat's eye (Lehsunia) set in silver or gold on the middle finger. Donate multi-colored items and serve animals.
