Cookie Policy

Last updated: 19 July 2026. What cookies we use, why we use them, and how to control them.

What are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device when you visit them. They allow the website to remember your preferences (such as theme, language, or selected city), analyze how the site is used, and serve relevant advertisements. Cookies are widely used across the web and are not inherently harmful — they cannot access other files on your device or execute code.

Types of Cookies We Use

1. Essential Cookies

These cookies are necessary for the website to function correctly. They enable core features such as remembering your selected city, theme preference (light/dark), and maintaining your session. Without these cookies, parts of OmPanchang would not work.

  • theme — remembers your light/dark mode preference. Stored for 1 year.
  • selected-city — remembers your chosen panchang city. Stored for 30 days.
  • language — remembers your display language preference. Stored for 1 year.

2. Analytics Cookies

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website — which pages are most popular, how long visitors stay, what devices they use, and where they come from. This information is aggregated and anonymous; it helps us improve our content and user experience.

  • _ga — distinguishes unique users. Stored for 2 years.
  • _gid — distinguishes unique users for the day. Stored for 24 hours.
  • _gat — throttles request rate. Stored for 1 minute.

3. Advertising Cookies

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. AdSense uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our website and other websites on the internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info/choices.

  • IDE, ANID — Google advertising cookies.
  • NID — Google preference cookie for ad personalization.
  • test_cookie — used by Google to check if browser supports cookies.

4. Functional Cookies

These cookies enable enhanced functionality such as embedding videos, sharing articles on social media, and displaying content from third-party platforms (YouTube, Twitter, etc.). If you disable these cookies, some features may not work correctly.

Managing Cookies

You have several options for managing cookies:

  • Browser settings — All modern browsers allow you to accept, reject, or delete cookies. Check your browser's help documentation for instructions.
  • Do Not Track — If your browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal, we respect it for advertising cookies (though we still use essential cookies for the site to function).
  • Opt out of personalized ads — Visit Google Ads Settings to opt out of interest-based advertising.
  • Opt out of Google Analytics — Install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to prevent your data from being collected by Google Analytics on this and other sites.

Consequences of Disabling Cookies

If you disable all cookies, you may experience the following limitations:

  • You will need to re-select your city every time you visit (panchang timings are city-specific).
  • You will need to re-choose your theme (light/dark) on every visit.
  • Some interactive features may be slower or less personalized.
  • The website will still be fully usable — just less convenient.

Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy as we add new features or change our third-party service providers. The updated version takes effect immediately upon posting, with the "Last updated" date revised accordingly.
